Asticou Inn, a grand old hotel filled with charm and tradition,
celebrates its one hundred and fourteenth year of continuous operation
in 1997. Overlooking picturesque Northeast Harbor, the Inn offers you
just about everything you are looking for in a vacation. Relaxation,
excitement, competition, serenity, natural beauty and old world charm
are all woven into one satisfying summer experience.
Asticou Inn provides a rare opportunity to savor
the ambiance of a bygone era, while providing the conveniences you
expect to find in a well-appointed inn. Named for an early Indian
convert to Christianity, the quiet elegance of this traditional inn is
enhanced by oriental rugs covering much of the main floor and a
cheerful fire perpetually burning in the huge lobby fireplace. The
Inn's warm and friendly atmosphere is enhanced by a responsive
professional staff catering to the guest's every comfort.
Your choice of traditional or contemporary accommodations provides your own individual setting, luxury and privacy. The classic Main House, pictured above, presides over beautiful Northeast Harbor. Cranberry Lodge with its handsome traditional rooms and Bird Bank and Blue Spruce guest houses overlooking charming gardens are the choice of many. The Topsiders, more contemporary in aspect, have splendid views of the harbor and offer attractive parlors with limited housekeeping capabilities.
A sophisticated cuisine, which focuses on the bounty of Maine, and fine
imported wines bring unique quality to the Asticou table. During the
regular season, Asticou Inn offers the Modified American Plan (MAP)
that includes breakfast and dinner; a European Plan (EP) provides a
breakfast only option. Meals are served in handsome dining rooms where
floral murals, crisp linens and fresh flowers prevail. The deck,
stretching the length of the inn and overlooking the blue waters of
Northeast Harbor, is a delightful location for luncheon and cocktails.
Customarily, most gentlemen wear a jacket and tie for dinner.
Step outside your door for swimming, tennis or just lounging in the long summer sun of Maine. The Northeast Harbor Golf Club welcomes Asticou guests and there are three other courses nearby. Gentle walks through lovely gardens or rigorous hikes on trails or carriage roads in the mountains - take your pick! The hiking and mountain climbing are varied and are another way for you to enjoy picnicking, birding and breathtaking scenery.
Mount Desert Island itself, with its magnificent Acadia National Park, is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Northeast Harbor bounded on the west by Somes Sound, the only natural fjord in North America, is a mecca for cruising yachts. Hundreds of surrounding islands and harbors invite you to explore and picnic. And the watching is wonderful: birds, seals, porpoises, even whales.
Asticou Inn... it pleases you in so many ways.
