Castlemaine Inn

Bar Harbor, Maine

The Castlemaine is a delightfully old rambling inn with twisting corridors and unexpected, sunny alcoves. The house was built by George Newman in 1886 and later became the summer residence of the Austro-Hungarian ambassador and his wife, the Baron and Baroness Hengelmueler. Nestled on a quiet side street in the Village of Bar Harbor, Castlemaine Inn is only minutes from the magnificent Acadia National Park and within easy reach of galleries, shops and fine restaurants.

The Castlemaine Inn has twelve charming rooms and four comfortable suites. Some rooms have queen canopy beds, queen four poster beds and king size beds. Many rooms have fireplaces and private balconies. All rooms have private baths, air conditioning and cable television. Antique pieces are sprinkled throughout the Inn and all rooms are decorated with fine linens.

A delightful continental buffet breakfast is served daily in our cheerful morning room or on our veranda from 8:00 to 9:30 AM. The menu features fresh fruit, scones, muffins and preserves, bagels & cream cheese, cold cereal and hot oatmeal, coffee cake and bundt cake, assorted breads and cheeses, orange juice, freshly brewed coffee (decaf available) and teas (herbal available).

Spend the morning hiking, biking, rock climbing, kayaking, playing tennis or golf, or deep-sea fishing. Relax in the afternoon whale-watching, bird-watching, walking along the beach and shore path, or browsing art and antiques. In the evening, dine on lobster and clams at dozens of fine restaurants nearby. End your day at a music festival or on a scenic sunset cruise.

The 3-Diamond Award lodging and accomodations of Castlemaine Inn will make your vacation a memorable retreat.
