The Wayne HotelWayne, Pennsylvania This
hotel is located in the heart of Wayne, Pennsylvania, and this
charming landmark is certain to find a place in your
heart, as well. Built in 1906, the Wayne Hotel started out as loding
for Philadelphians seeking respite from the summer city heat. But
renovations, begun in 1985, give the Wayne an elegance far surpassing
the original design, with antique reproductions of nineteenth-century
Victorian furniture complementing rooms equipped with all modern
amenities. This is no cookie-cutter business hotel: each room has its
own character, as befits the historic setting.
The first thing you notice about the Tudor-style Wayne Hotel is its huge wrap-around porch, where warm weather often finds guests enjoying the morning paper over a sampling of the hotel's complementary continental breakfast. In the afternoons and evenings, the hotel's excellent Taquet restaurant serves French cuisine with an American bistro flair al fresco on the porch, or in the formal dining room or lounge. For relaxation and conversation, there is no better setting than in front of the lobby fireplace or in the hotel's library. Manager Susan Prevost and her staff strive to make business- and pleasure-travelers alike feel welcome in a way that larger hotels cannot. "Guests like the fact that we remember them from the last time they stayed with us," she says. The elegant setting at the Wayne Hotel, with its delicate chandeliers, potted palms, and columned walls, belies the relaxed atmosphere and attentive attitude of your hosts, who are happy to assist guests with travel plans and directions. For active getaways, the Wayne Hotel is ideally situated, with easy access to historic Philadelphia (30 minutes by train, and the station is just a 1-block walk from the hotel). Also nearby are Valley Forge National Park, Longwood Gardens, the Devon Horse Show, and beautiful Lancaster County with its Amish farms and Pennsylvania Dutch attractions.
