Situated in the heart of golf country, The Ligonier Country Inn provides an almost spa-like atmosphere for its guests: plenty of activity for those who want it; serenity for those who don't. Innkeepers P.J. and Maggie Nied pride themselves on fostering a laid-back atmosphere and welcoming visitors as friends rather than clients.
Guests can expect private
baths and air-conditioning in each of the inn's eighteen rooms, with a
complimentary continental breakfast included. Rooms are styled with
country charm, like the Green Room, its four-poster bed dressed with a
bower of greens and lace. On the premises are an outdoor swimming pool,
a banquet facility, and two meeting rooms. Cross-country ski
instructors P.J. and Maggie take groups of guests for lessons and tours
of the surroundings.
Nearby you will find the greatest concentration of golf courses in the nation, as well as lake and stream fishing and mountain biking. Those looking for a more cultural experience will be pleased with the number of antiques shops, museums, farmer's markets, and summer theater opportunities in the area.
Upon return from the day's
activities, guests may enjoy traditional American cuisine in the inn's
dining room. A must try is the inn's famous
flowerpot bread, served, as you would expect, in a flower pot. The
Nieds say it is a trademark of sorts.
Famed athletes are a regular presence at the inn, no doubt due to its proximity to so many athletic opportunities - though it could be the service that reels them in.
"We have a tremendous staff," says P.J. "They really, really work hard and have a caring attitude."
